PlatinumGames has been on fire lately!
Following the April Fool’s joke that saw a retro version of Bayonetta appear on Steam, which was then followed by an actual Steam release of the previously console only title, it seems there might be more news for fans of fast-paced, over-the-top action ahead.
Early in the day on April 24th, the Bayonetta Steam port received a brief, 22kb patch, that added in this icon, which is a picture of the player character from Vanquish. For those not in the know, Vanquish is a third-person shooter known for its speed and sheer insanity. For years, fans of the series have begged for an appearance on PC, and it appears they might get their wish.
Alongside were a series of videos posted to Platinum’s YouTube channel. Within–the–five–videos–are phrases from the game, repeated three times each. Platinum had been eerily silent on the Bayonetta series following the release of Bayonetta 2, exclusively for the Wii U. The significance of three of anything cannot be understated to Bayonetta fans. With SteamSpy estimating that roughly 140,000 people own Bayonetta on Steam, only two weeks after release.
Platinum certainly must have noticed the potential of the PC market by now. Even when you compare it to the excellent Nier: Automata, which is estimated to have 250,000 owners on Steam in the two months since its release. Bayonetta’s achievements are nothing to sneeze at, considering the release on PC hadn’t been hinted at, even in the slightest. Aside from the April Fool’s joke, it wouldn’t exactly be out of the question for PlatinumGames to repeat the use of a surprise announcement once more, either by porting Bayonetta 2, an announcement of Bayonetta 3, or a port of Vanquish.
No matter the result, we’ll keep an eye on this developing story as well..
