Next Battlefield to Be Revealed Next Week

Invitations, a teaser countdown site, and a surprising lack of leaks have combined to create an aura of mystery around the latest entry in the long-running Battlefield series. Coming off the release of last year’s Battlefront, DICE have been surprisingly quiet on what’s in store for the next major entry in the series. DICE LA, of course, revealed some time ago that active development of new content for Battlefield 4 had stopped nearly two and a half years after the game’s release.

Now, with these announcements, the internet is abuzz with speculation and hype. Rumors have swirled around the details of the new Battlefield for some time, ranging from a World War 1 shooter, to a sequel to 2142, to a modern AAA take on the World War 2 shooter, and perhaps settling on the ‘modern military shooter.’ The fact remains that, compared to the upcoming Call of Duty, little is known, even whether or not this is going to be another numbered entry in the series.

Perhaps this is because DICE has been fostering relationships with YouTubers and livestreamers throughout Battlefield 4’s life cycle, inviting a number of them out to Los Angeles for tests of the latest DLC packs, or feedback on maps. Conversely, compared to the forgettable Battlefield Hardline or utterly devoid of content Battlefront, little news has been made about those titles by the community.

Personally, I’m hoping for a Cold War-era take on the military shooter, with a mix of some straight crazy experimental tech with actual military hardware. Regardless of what I think, everyone will know what the next Battlefield title will be about next Friday, May 6th, at 4PM EST/8PM GMT.

They should do one in space. On another planet and stuff. That would be fun

Good point. I think the games can play with the setting not the position. Not being in a military or a military-like organisation is always going to be restrictive and we want to use all those fancy gadgets and guns.

Maybe, but I remain skeptical. The last time Battlefield tried to be different, it didn't go so well

Yeah, though we have a good idea of what the next CoD is going to be about, Battlefield stands poised to do something completely different, I hope.

Cant wait to see where this is going. It seems like this year both Dice and IW are taking their gems into different directions, trying to actually refresh the franchises.
