You might even, we hazard to suggest, call it a Shadow Drop. And, oh, would you look at that? Largely focused around player feedback, bugfixes and the like, there is nevertheless a lot more, too. The photo drone really caught my eye. It’s a glorified photo mode, sure. But the implementation is what makes it stand out. Very much on point to be a piece of ‘external’ technology, eh? Also pink guns. Nice!

Official Press Release

New Photo Drone, PECO minigames, new hidden areas, and a major round of bug fixes arrive in surprise Update 3.5: Shadow Drop for The Last Caretaker

Helsinki, Finland – April 15th, 2026 – Channel37 proudly announces Update 3.5: Shadow Drop, a surprise Early Access update for The Last Caretaker, available now on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Update 3.5: Shadow Drop is the direct result of the game’s community feedback, and isn’t part of the game’s original six-update roadmap. After tracking player reports, crash logs, and various instances of gameplay friction, Channel37 decided against waiting for a major release to resolve these issues.

This extra update focuses on the things players feel every day: broken persistence, unreliable cables, fabrication issues, progression blockers, and resource heavy scenes that needed more performance headroom. Instead of waiting and folding it all into Update 4, it was pushed out now.

Update 3.5 Shadow Drop Highlights

Major fixes + optimization to address broken persistence, unreliable cables, fabrication inconsistencies, progression blocks, and graphics lag in certain areas
New Photo Drone for taking photos/screenshots, scouting areas, and seeing a new perspective on the drowned world
PECO cartridges + playable minigames to challenge even the quickest robotic reflexes
More hidden rooms, caves, vents, and secrets throughout familiar locations
New expansions to the world such as a new storm region, support buoys, and higher-quality environmental details
New customization paints for weapons
“We read the reports, we track the logs, and we take every issue seriously,” said Miika Aulio, CEO and Co-Founder of Channel37. “We released Update 3.5: Shadow Drop because players shouldn’t have to wait for the next big milestone to have us fix issues affecting their experience. If something matters to the players, it matters to us.”

Update 4.0: Below Us, including new underwater locations, vehicles and a combat overhaul forms the next major content release for The Last Caretaker, remains on track and on schedule.
