R6: Siege Gets Third DLC, Major Update

Moving to the claustrophobic streets of Brazil, the third DLC for Rainbow Six: Siege sees a whole host of bugfixes, anti-cheat measures, and new content, all coming free to all players. Two new operators are coming as well: the first, Capitao, is a fast-moving attacker, whose special weapon is a crossbow that can be configured to fire either smoke bolts, or asphyxiating bolts. His counterpart, Caveira, has an ability that allows her to move silently, and she can also interrogate “downed but not out” enemies, revealing their teammates on the map. Favela, the new map, is a highly destructible series of apartments that offer tight angles and multiple avenues of attack.

Additionally, much work has been done to mitigate cheaters and griefers. Intentional teamkilling is now punished with increasingly lengthy bans, up to a week, with permanent bans as an option as well. Operator limbs can no longer clip through walls, improvements to votekicks, FOV balancing, geometry abuse, and more has been made to “improve the health” of the game. Killcams too have been tweaked to be more synchronized to what actually happened. Communicative measures have been improved as well, and the preparation screen has been enhanced. A full list of improvements is here.

For a game that was rightfully lambasted for their DLC policies on release, Ubisoft seems to be taking care of their franchise, compared to, say, The Division. Healthy game updates and consistent free weekends have maintained interest in Siege, without much of the press fanfare that comes alongside it. As the first year since release approaches, it will be interesting to see where Ubisoft takes Siege next.
