So it seems that some curious fellow decided to take a peek inside Rocket League’s encrypted files to see what was in there. Turns out he uncovered a new feature coming in a few months. As you can see above, there’s an image of a crate and key. After posting his findings to Reddit Psyonix’s VP Jeremy Dunham commented saying that the image was in fact legitimate but could not say too much about the feature. What he did say however is this: Crates will only have cosmetics, will not be integrated with Steam Market, and the entire section of the game can be hidden in options.

The goal of their crates and keys is to help them fund their e-sport prize pools and events. More news on this will come out around the time of the RLCS Finals as that’s when they were initially planning on announcing it.
