In breaking news today Turtle Rock Studios has announced that they are no longer involved in Evolve: Stage 2.
In a nice long post on their website it is mentioned that 2K Games have taken over all sustainment of Evolve. While this is to be expected when a small studio works on a licensed product, it is frustrating to any creative person to be told you can’t work on something you spent ages on.
However, this isn’t the end for Turtle Rock. The post does mention that they are working on something, but haven’t revealed anything yet. We can only hope it’s as expansive as Evolve was. To celebrate, one last stream will be hosted on the Evolve Twitch channel at 12:01 Pacific on the 27th October (8pm London, 10pm Oslo, 6am Fri 28th Sydney NSW) where Phil and Chris will sit down, play and discuss the development of the game.
On some slightly worse news though, a blog post by 2K was also published, stating that development is complete and the FAQ at the bottom does state that there are no new updates planned, which will, alas be a death-knell for the F2P game.
I personally was interested in Evolve, then I saw the cash shop and instantly decided against that. When the F2P model came out, I was going to try it but life stood in the way. And this happened. I don’t think Evolve will last for much longer, as no further updates to a free-to-play game will undoubtedly kill it.
