Turtle Rock Studios and 2K are on a roll lately with their recent change to a Free-to-Play format with Evolve Stage 2. With the huge influx of new and returning players, an arena based 4v1 game needs a lot of constant care and updating to remain fresh and fun. Turtle Rock has given its players a steady dose of updates and balance tweaks ever since switching to a Free-to-Play format, and now upping their game once again with five big updates over the next five weeks! This massive update event has been dubbed Shear Madness, which seems like a fitting title if each update continues to add exciting new content and characters to play with. In the coming weeks we’ll see an entire host of new experiences, several character adaptations, three new map variants, several requested community features, more tweaks and balance checks and a brand new Co-op mode!

To start off the Shear Madness event comes The Quantum Surge, this first major update includes the newest Medic to the Hunter team’s roster, Quantum Caira. Her unique area control style keeps the team alive with sustained healing with Regeneration Fields, a Neutron Barrier which can block damage for the entire team for a short period. Proton Field skill can be deployed and stacked multiple times which damages the Monster went it enters the area and lastly, her Generyst II Field, which not only heals fellow hunters, but damages enemies in proximity for a short period. Also coming with today’s update is the all new “Try Before You Buy” option, giving everyone the opportunity to test out every hunter, monster, skin and perk in training mode. Four new Advanced Hunter Tutorials have also been added, which is a great way to teach newcomers a few things to help them survive and bring down the Monster, but us veterans can also benefit from these tutorials, they are pretty short and simple to do and each one nets you 250 Koins on completion. All the above is a nice little boost to help keep players playing and possibly grabbing a few new ones in the process.

I’ve been having a lot of fun (and frustration) with Evolve Stage 2 since the removal of the price tag, these new modes and future updates from Turtle Rock, hopefully will keep me playing for the foreseeable future. 31 hours clocked so far and I’m still having a blast (most times) especially with a few friends, with a $0 price tag, you really can’t go wrong.

As always folks, check out the trailer for a quick peek and of course, for more details, please read the Press Release at the bottom, till next time Hunters, game on!

Official Press Release

2K and Turtle Rock Studios today announced the start of a month-long “Shear Madness” event in Evolve Stage 2, bringing exciting new content updates throughout the weeks ahead. Starting today, players can expect five new updates over five weeks that will include three more Character Adaptations, three new Map Variants that shake-up the traditional Evolve experience, a brand new Co-op game mode, as well as community requested features and quality of life improvements. Today, the Shear Madness event kicks off with The Quantum Surge Update

The Quantum Surge will include the newest Medic to the Hunter team’s roster, Quantum Caira. Her unique area control style healing combined with new abilities are detailed below and the update will also feature:

  • An all new “Try Before you Buy” option, where all hunters, monsters, skins and perks that you’d normally earn using Silver Keys are now unlocked in the game’s Training Mode.
    ·         Balance changes;
    ·         A brand new series of Advanced Hunter tutorials
    ·         Some first steps towards improving widespread community issues on matchmaking and leavers;

Quantum Caira keeps the team alive through sustained healing and careful positioning. Her Regeneration Fields create healing zones while her Neutron Barrier blocks damage for the whole team, as long as she’s in the right place. Unlike other medics she has no healing burst so a well-positioned Regeneration Field combined with a well-timed Proton Field are the keys to success with Quantum Caira.

Quantum Caira’s abilities include:

  • Proton Field- Deploys a zone that damages enemies over time. Multiple fields stack.
    ·         Regeneration Field – Deploys a Generyst™ zone that heals each nearby Hunter over time. Multiple Regeneration Fields stack.
    ·         Neutron Barrier- Applies a short damage-resistance buff to all nearby Hunters.
    ·         Generyst II™ Field: Heals hunters and damages monsters in the area for the duration of the effect.
