Announcing The Messenger

Posted on 04 Jan 2018

If you’re a fan of retro-but-not-really type games then you’ll want to give that trailer up there a good watch because developer Sabotage Studio look like they’re channelling equal parts Shovel Knight, Odallus, and Ninja Gaiden not just in the art but in how that gameplay looks. The Messenger‘s main gimmick is switching in real-time between 8- and 16-bit version of the world to make progress.

Be sure to check out the press release below for a little more on the story of the game, or stay tuned right here for more info as we get it.

Official Press Release

I hope you had a great holiday break! Today I’d like to introduce you to a new retro-inspired game to look forward to in 2018: Sabotage Studio’s The Messenger.

The Messenger is a newly announced action platformer for Windows PC and console that melds two generations of gaming into one, with real-time gameplay shifts from 8-bit to 16-bit, for an incredibly deep and clever Metroidvania-style adventure.

You play as a young ninja on a quest to avenge his clan by any means necessary, even if it means traveling through space and time. The Messenger is an homage to NES and SNES games, packed with classically-inspired intense ninja action platforming, deep replay value, a cast of ridiculous characters, catchy chiptune music and lots of secret unlockables! Completionists and speedrunners are in for a treat!

If you’d like to learn more about The Messenger and speak with developer Sabotage Studio, please let us know! And if you or a member of your staff are headed to PAX South 2018, we’d also be happy to set you up with a hands-on preview of the game.
