Left Alive Announcement (Updated)

Posted on 20 Sep 2017

Update: According to a translation of Famitsu via Gematsu we’ve got a little more information. Our suspicions about it being a Front Mission game have been partially confirmed, it will share that universe but it’s not what we were expecting. Instead, Left Alive will be a third person survival shooter featuring traps and shoot-outs. It will take place chronologically between Front Mission 5 and Front Mission Evolved. There’ll be three playable protagonists, two are confimed as young and female so presumably the ones from the key art are the three in question. The presence of Wanzers has also been confirmed but there won’t be any customization but there will be crafting.

What is surprising however is that the game is apparently going to be predominantly offline and use a stage based structure apparently. Survival type games are usually online sandboxes. Stay tuned for more information as we get it.

Sadly there’s not much more information than the above trailer for this one. Square are only really talking about the developers involved, which is a fairly impressive roster of names from Japanese games involving mechs. We’ve got Toshifumi Nabeshima, director of Armored Core games. Yoji Shinkawa, character designer of Metal Gear games. And Takayuki Yanase, mech designer for Ghost In The Shell: Arise, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Oh, it’s also going to have a dark and gritty world but that should go without saying these days. Expect more info later in the week as TGS continues. You can check out the Steam page if you really want.

I didn't put this in the post partly because it's speculation and partly because it took me this long to even bother checking it out but here's a little extra:
The photo on the wall looks remarkably like Huffman Island from Front Mission 1.
Also the mechs being carried by the VTOLs at the end have a profile and foot shape almost identical to the O.C.U. Zenith from pretty much every Front Mission game.

Here's some extra speculation: At the start of Front Mission 1 you're "left alive" when your squad is ambushed and slaughtered. If I were a gambling man, my money would be firmly on a Front Mission reboot.

EDIT: Turns out I was half right. According to Japanese magazine Famitsu it's a survival shooter set in the Front Mission universe.

Yes, but will it be Front Mission...or Front Mission: Evolved?
