Warshift is Different, Warshift is Here

Warshift is the brainchild of Cyril Megem, the one man dev team. After a year of Early Access Warshift has reached release. With plenty of Gundam influence, as well as frenetic strategy, RPG elements, 3rd person combat and resource based gameplay, there really is no other game like Warshift.

After working on other companies’ games for a good ten years, Cyril finally struck out on his own (like so many other game designers) and decided to work on his dream game. Warshift is a hybrid game, and as such it is inherently harder to make because the many standards and requirements expected by gamers for its multiple genres, will all be rolled into one game. It is abundantly clear that Cyril does not like to make things easy for himself. However, after a year of Early Access, and five years development, he has demonstrated he has the determination and the skill to round up these disparate elements and make Warshift a complete game.

Early Access has seen some very impressive improvements to Warshift. It is virtually a different game than the one I played a year ago, both in appearance and ergonomics. Just a brief taster today was intriguing enough to make me want to examine it further. Describing Warshift is difficult. It is both similar and vastly different to other games: it has very typical gameplay for its RTS and 3rd person genres, and yet mixes them together in a very unique way. The aesthetic reminds me a bit of Far Cry Blood Dragon, (the laser dinosaurs were a big factor in this) and yet of course the gameplay is utterly different.

Warshift is an enigma that I can’t pin down right now. I’m definitely going to have to give it more time, at least until I’ve learnt how to play it properly. But if you like your games fresh and experimental (emphasis on mental) with a dash of space combat, some terrestrial warfare, underwater engagements, lots of crazy war machines, transforming robots and ROBOT DINOSAURS, then this is the game for you.

Official Press Release

Description:

WARSHIFT is the unique mix of Action, Strategy and Role-playing gameplay elements that forms an innovative game genre. You can build base, manage troops, and then come down to keep your enemy at gunpoint in the dynamic battle and customize your main characters.

The game has been developed just by one person (Cyril Megem), who is both game designer, artist and programmer in this project. He worked hard for more than 5 years to implement a lot of his and the game community’s ideas.

The author’s message:

” I came up with idea of this game a long time ago. Once, I’m decided to stop just to dream, but to make it real. Being a professional artist, game designer and programmer, I spent 10 years of my life working for many game companies. Finally I decided to leave my last job, staying home like a hermit for a while, and focusing on my own game title. The game you see here is a result of my personal day to day hard work over a 4 years + 1 year in the Early Access. That was my personal challenge, but I’m pretty sure I can do even more with community’s help.

I want to thank the game’s community for all the feedback, suggestions and support they have given me during the Early Access period. Everyone who helped me make it as awesome as possible, I thank you very much!
