When they were young, Ella and Robert were full of dreams and ambitions. After the promising beginning of their careers, they eventually split out and cut ties. Decades later, the Actress returns to the forbidden theatre, to once more become the performer, the audience, and the muse. Attend the last show of Mr. Chardish, a famous Director reflecting on his defining moments, and her role in his life.
The Last Show of Mr. Chardish is not only a nostalgic journey to the past, but also a unique experience when it comes to storytelling. In a relatively short game, you can take part in five totally different acts, with different art styles, key mechanics, controls, and even main characters. Opening of the game and following nostalgic moments in the rural theatre are similar to first-person, slow-paced story-driven games. Individual acts are different, usually faster, more complex, and always introduce unique game mechanics. And, of course, additional elaboration for the story of Ella and Robert.
Moved and inspired by What Remains of Edith Finch, awed by the various gameplay mechanics and the feelings the game invoked, we decided to rise to the challenge and combine genres by designing mechanics meaningful to the story, in order to give the player something more than mere amusement. That’s when the idea of a hub connecting various worlds came about. Our thoughts quickly ran to the theatre, due to a variety of plays that can be experienced and the creative world surrounding the theatre, which resonated with our desire to experiment with art – says Mateusz Mowel from Punk Notion.
The game took part in Summer Game Festival, Steam, and Xbox editions, gathering very good community feedback. However, a playable demo was presented as a self-published title – “Ars Fabulae”. Today, after teaming up with Hydra Games publisher, we’re introducing a new title.
“The Last Show of Mr. Chardish” better reflects the core of the game and gameplay. Its story-driven approach and the role of Director, who is a nonplayable, but very present character, when it comes to the game’s structure and narration. It was also one of the first community-driven decisions we’ve made together with our new partners form Punk Notion. – says Kamil Kurkowski, Hydra Games CEO.
Another community-based decision is providing more language versions. The Last Show of Mr. Chardish will be available in at least 10 language versions (subtitles). The PC & Xbox One premiere is scheduled for Q4 2020. Before that, you can expect more news about the game and a few surprises from Punkt Notion and Hydra Games. Join our community, wishlist the game, and follow official social media channels, to be up to date with our announcements.
