The Deathwing

Last year Streum On Studio released the teaser trailer for their upcoming game Deathwing, it quickly became one of my most played YouTube videos, indeed I’m still watching it a year later…

…yep still not dull.

It’s a sad fact that many games fall far short of their trailers. However Streum On Studio have just released a new video giving us a lot more detail and insight to the game they are making, and if anything, I’m more hyped than before.

Deathwing is a first person squad shooter, based in the 40K universe. The setting they have chosen is perhaps one of the most exciting, intense, and simply badass scenarios to take place in the 40K universe. You take the role of a Space Marine Terminator (the elite of the Erstwhile space commandos) as you board and explore a Space Hulk.

Space Hulks themselves, are an amalgam of gothic nightmare and futuristic technology. They are the mangled result of cathedral like space ships being warped and melted together in the 40K version of hell. Without apparent reason on method these hulks will appear and disappear all around the galaxy and beyond. Actual demons seem to be absent in the game so far, and that does follow cannon for the setting, but there are many other predators who will make home in the wandering behemoths. Perhaps the most insidious and deadly of these hermit creatures are the Genestealers (a cross between Alien, Species, and something worse).

As a Terminator it is your job to face these monsters head on. Armed with a deadly array of weapons, the most deadly of which is your mind (literally), you must explore these vessels and uncover lost objects of immeasurable power and importance. But to survive you must work together as one without fear, without pity, without remorse.

In the name of the Emperor.

Official Press Release

Space Hulk®: DeathwingTM is an upcoming first-person shooter set in Games Workshop‘s Warhammer 40,000 universe. Space Hulk: Deathwing is an adaptation of the Space Hulk board game, developed on Unreal Engine 4 by the team behind E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy, Streum On Studio. This trailer introduces the basics of the game: its premise, the teammates, the localised damage system, and some of the fearsome enemies players will encounter.

Infiltrate and explore the Space Hulk “Olethros”, a derelict collection of space ship and debris filled with hidden dangers and relics. As a Librarian, players can take AI squadmates or have fellow players join them in their investigation into the mystery of Olethros, co-written by renowned Dark Angels writer Gavin Thorpe.

Infesting the Space Hulk are ferocious Genestealers who utilise ambushes, swarming and tactical retreats in order to slowly tear down the player’s Terminator armour. Damage is localised, and taking too many hits in certain areas will cause your armour to malfunction. To stop the horde, you’ll have access to a wide assortment of weapons, skills, and powers taken directly from Warhammer 40,000 lore to customize your squad of Dark Angel Terminators.

Space Hulk: Deathwing will release later in 2016

No, just no. Each time a game does that it makes me want to throw the mouse at the monitor. Remember when Metro did that? It just sucked.
The challenge must come from a good design not by handicapping controls.

I'd actually like that. You ARE a Terminator after all

This looks very good but I have one worry about the game. I have a feeling that they will hamper the controls to "help" you feel more like in a clunky armour suit...
