TellTale Games are on a roll lately, just the other day we talked about the upcoming Batman: The TellTale Series game and today we get the chance to check out the first teaser trailer and some juicy details for their long running, critically acclaimed (and personal favorite) episodic masterpiece, The Walking Dead: A TellTale Games Series with Season Three. Although not specifically mentioned, but safe to say, this series, like most of TellTale’s games will be released on all major platforms, PC and mobile gaming. This time around ol’ Clem(entine) is back, with a few more years of walker killing experience no doubt, she’ll be playing a key role once again, but she isn’t alone. New to the series is Javier, who, like Clem is a capable and skilful survivor who’s been through hell and back and managed to stay alive in the world of the dead, where walkers (both dead and alive) lurk behind every corner.
At the recent San Diego Comic-Con event, fans got their first peek at a wonderfully done teaser poster for the upcoming episode, showing Clem standing side to side with the mysterious playable newcomer to the series, Javier. It was said that fans will eventually be able to get their mittens on a special limited-edition poster, celebrating the upcoming sequel. No further details on when or how we’ll get our hands on it other than waiting until later this summer for more details from Skybound Entertainment/Telltale Games.
Javier will take a playable role throughout the season, sharing the spotlight with Clem, how exactly that will work isn’t clear as of yet, but from the sounds of it, TellTale has something very interesting planned. Apparently we’ll jump into each character’s shoes at different time frames, not exactly linear, moment to moment type of storytelling you would expect, Telltale Games isn’t divulging any further details on that just yet. This will be a new story that fresh players to the series will be able to jump into without feeling lost, yet returning fans (save files and decisions intact) will find deeper meaning within the five part, emotional, nerve wracking episodic experience.
One little detail that was mentioned will be the fact that this time around Clem isn’t the one being protected. She in fact, is the protector, doing her best to keep herself and little AJ (Rebecca’s son from Season Two) alive and well. I’m excited to see where the journey takes us. It was an emotional rollercoaster with Season One, Two and the Michonne spin off game, I’m not ashamed to admit, many a tears were shed throughout the ride. How will the loss of Lee, and depending on your choices, Kenny or Jane, continue to affect Clementine throughout the story, will she be the same Clem we remember? Will she be someone we barely recognize? How will Javier play into Clem’s journey? Does Clementine have what it takes to keep her and AJ safe? We’ll find out more news as it happens and update our readers as the time grows closer and closer to the premiere of Season Three this fall.
Please give a read to the press release below for more details, and of course, don’t forget to watch how much Clem as grown in the exciting teaser above.
In celebration of SDCC this week, Telltale joined our friends at Skybound Entertainment live on stage to discuss a few more details on our upcoming season of The Walking Dead.
Eagle-eyed fans will recognize that the poster revealed today is an homage to the original poster for The Walking Dead when the concept was first shown at SDCC in 2011. In contrast to the original, Clem is no longer being protected, and stands shoulder to shoulder with mysterious newcomer Javier. We’ll be sharing some details later this summer on how you may be able to get your hands on a special limited-edition run of this poster.
The Walking Dead‘s Creative Director Dennis Lenart from Telltale was joined by Melissa Hutchison (voice of Clementine) to share a few more details about the upcoming season, and tried their best not to spoil the story that’s yet to come.
What they could share was your first new look at the season since it was revealed at E3 last month. In this first shot, you’ll see Javier and Clementine making their way through a walker-infested slaughterhouse. Remember, you’ll be playing as both characters, although you may not be playing each character within the same frame of time…
Another unique aspect of this third season is that while it absolutely continues the story of the previous two seasons, it also serves as a new entry point for fans who’ve yet to be caught up to speed. Players starting with this third season will be introduced to young survivor AJ, who fans will recognize as the son of Rebecca from Season Two – and we can confirm that he will be making an appearance in this season as well. So players who are new to the series will have a chance to learn more about Clementine’s backstory, while at the same time, those who have played previous seasons will have a story that’s uniquely tailored to the diverging paths they’ve taken in the past.
Lenart also discussed the importance of playing as Javier, and how the team was able to create a character without any prior relationship with Clementine. This will provide an interesting opportunity for players to meet a character they may have helped shape. They’ll also have a chance to play as a survivor fresh to the series, who is currently struggling to keep his family together in the face of the undead apocalypse.
Stay tuned for more news as it happens on this upcoming third season, as we gear up towards the premiere coming later this fall!
