Prey for the Gods Takes to Kickstarter

Wearing its influences and punny name on its sleeve, Prey for the Gods centres around monolithic boss battles and survival. You play as a lone female protagonist searching for answers as to why the land has been plunged into an eternal winter.

The most obvious source of influence is Shadow of the Colossus but seeing those shots of a behemoth flying over a frozen world I was also reminded of particular locales in Skyrim. That’s to say nothing of Prey for the Gods‘s exploratory gameplay centring around secrets locked away in long forgotten temples. Additionally, both games also offer non-linear worlds and the option to loot the bodies of the fallen. The Kickstarter page lists other influences as ‘Deus Ex, DayZ, and BloodBorne.’

Development for Prey for the Gods was initially part-time and began in 2014. However, since January of this year the developer’s have been working on their own dime to develop the game full time. The Kickstarter says the game is already about 25% complete and is asking for $300, 000 in order to complete development. If they hit this target, the game will release in late 2017 for PC with 5 titanic bosses to fight, a dynamic day & night weather system and ‘intense’ survival gameplay. However, the campaigns stretch goals certainly look interesting, to not even mention the backer rewards. Just take a look at the crowd-funding campaign page. Also worth looking at is their honest take on risks and challenges regarding the project. In a post Might No. 9 world, this transparency is refreshing and definitely appreciated.
