Mars: Technomancer Logs

Spiders released a new trailer and some screenshots, yesterday, for their next title The Technomancer. Almost certainly a prequel to their highly underappreciated (though admittedly flawed) Mars: War Logs. Though Spiders have been oddly cagey about confirming this so far, it’s abundantly clear that it, at the very least, takes place in the same universe. The weapons, factions and places are far too similar to be mere coinciding.

Boasting approximately forty hours of branching story, with quests that will have up to five solutions each. The thing that really caught my eye is the warning, acting against the wishes of your in game companions can lead to them leaving you altogether. Something which is a decided rarity in games, but I’ve always wanted to see more of. That’s the kind of thing that really adds a sense of weight to your decisions. There are ramifications from your actions with the in game factions too, which we’ve seen elsewhere. But that kind of thing, on its own, often feels a little hollow to me. Companions pulling a Cartman is far more meaningful.

Gameplay, which this latest trailer details, offers a threefold combat system. Each style focusing on different approaches consisting of staff combat, mace and shield, and a sword/nailgun combo. All three of which can be further enhanced by your technomantic abilities via things such as buffing your weapons to do more damage and creating an elctrical shield around yourself. Or you could just cut loose with chain lightning and zap the everloving crap out of everyone. On top of that, you can customise your own character how you want him, and we’ve been promised that your actions will have a meaningful impact on how the story unfolds.

All in all, having to wait for “later in the year” is becoming ever more tedious. I want this now! Check out the video and press release and you’ll see why.

Official Press Release

The Technomancer: the Sci-Fi RPG unleashes its Gameplay Trailer!
The game will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 21

The Technomancer, the sci-fi roleplaying game set on Mars, now has a new Gameplay Trailer that introduces you to the universe and delves into the heart of the deep RPG experience.

You play as an apprentice Technomancer, Zachariah, who represents one of the powerful corporations warring for the most precious resource on the red planet: water. The Technomancers are formidable warriors, harnessing destructive electrical powers that are channeled through their implants. Your adventure will take you on a journey across Mars, where each decision you make bears consequences.

The Technomancer is a roleplaying game at heart and it starts from the character creation screen, where you will customize your appearance and make your first character development decisions. During the 40 hours of quests, you’ll earn precious experience points, that will let you further develop your character through 4 skill trees tied to 3 different combat stances and your technomancer powers. These will help you face the many dangers of Mars: other human survivors and mutants, as well as the numerous hybrid creatures bioengineered by the first human settlers.

You will also learn talents that will be useful during the exploration phases. Along your journey you’ll recruit many companions each with their own story, behaviour, moral code, special quests and talents, that assist you in combat as well as exploration. Steel yourself and your companions with better armor pieces and weapons, and further improve your equipment with the crafting system. All along your journey, you’ll create a unique hero (or anti-hero) and story that reflects the choices, friends and enemies you made.

Embark on a big journey on Mars with the sci-fi RPG The Technomancer, available June 21 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Is it obvious I was gushing a tiny little bit?
