Zero Sum Games (Daniel DiCicco) has announced the Kickstarter campaign of Longsword.

A mixture of turn based tactics, and card collecting mechanics, Daniel has created a platform from broad ranging adventures across multiple genres. As well as online multiplayer combat, Longsword also includes single player and co-operative campaign modes, and a custom campaign creator.

The Kickstarter puts a lot of emphasis on the customizability of Longsword. There is a unit painter available, but the main attraction is the map maker, this allows you to not only create custom maps, but also link the maps together to make campaigns and “dungeons”. When finished you can then share your creations via the Steam Workshop.

Longsword will come with a fantasy setting with 400 units planned for the base game. More additions are planned, with extended fantasy, science fiction and zombie sets too.

Official Press Release

Longsword Tabletop Tactics

Zero Sum Games is pleased to announce Longsword! Longsword is a game of digital tabletop tactics, where you will collect an army of miniatures and spells to do battle on a hex-based tabletop. Longsword is now entering crowd-funding on Kickstarter; all backers will receive immediate access to the closed Alpha and access to our forums! Check out the details below!

What is Longsword?

Longsword is more than just a game about tabletop miniatures; it’s also a framework for games of tabletop miniatures. While the initial release of Longsword will include more than 400 cards from the Longsword Fantasy Universe, our content plan is to produce several different playsets of content to cater to the major tabletop gamer genres; so if you want to see giant stompy Mechs battling aliens, then we’ll have you covered. If World War 2 or Post-Apocalyptic scenarios interest you, then those are in the plans as well.

Customization is King

Longsword offers deep customization of your gameplay experience. You can:

  • “Paint” your miniatures to have an army with custom colors
  • Collect a wide array of “unit bases” for your miniatures to create a unique-looking army
  • Create your own custom hex-based tables and share them immediately with friends and strangers alike

Ultimately Longsword is meant to unlock your creative potential; build cross-faction armies, customize them with the looks that you want them to have, and then battle away against other players online or against the AI in solo adventures

Ranked Online Play, or Solo & Co-op Adventures

While competitive online play stands at the heart of Longsword, the Solo Adventure mode provides a story-driven method to explore the world of Longsword and to unlock cool new stuff for your online armies!
