Launch Trailer and Release Date for Don’t Knock Twice

Posted on 09 Aug 2017

Don’t Knock Twice is a first person horror/puzzle game by Wales Interactive. Built for VR, but fully playable without. Because anyone who says a game can only work in VR is not a good developer. It focuses around the Russia mythological figure of Baba Yaga, who is stalking the player character (you) as she tries to reconnect with her daughter. It’s a tie-in title to last year’s film, of the same name, which stars Katee Sackhoff.

Fun fact, our very own Bobfish contributed a poem for the game, which will be available as a collectible lore. First one to find it will get…bugger all actually. But go find it anyway, ’cause it’s a good poem.

Official Press Release

VR Horror “Don’t Knock Twice” Coming September 5th

Developed alongside the 2017 horror film starring Katee Sackhoff.

Announcement – Wales Interactive have announced their upcoming VR horror game, Don’t Knock Twice, will be released on 5th September for PS VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The Welsh developers have released a new trailer and a set of screenshots revealing new and improved visuals over the original VR demo that released on Steam in October. Discounted pre-orders have also been announced.

The game will launch at £15.99 / $19.99 and with that, the player will receive the full VR game and the option to play without a VR device. This will be bundled with the game and no extra purchase or download is necessary. Xbox One gamers will receive the standalone non-VR version for £9.99 / $14.99.

Pre-orders are available starting today (8th August) on Steam and Xbox One with a discount of 20%. PlayStation 4 pre-orders will be available soon.

Don’t Knock Twice is a first-person VR horror game based on a psychologically terrifying urban legend. To save her estranged daughter, a guilt-ridden mother must uncover the frightening truth behind the urban tale of a vengeful, demonic witch. One knock to wake her from her bed, twice to raise her from the dead.

To find and save your daughter, you will explore all depths of a grand manor house, searching for hidden clues and wield items to escape the terror that surrounds you.

The game is being developed alongside the upcoming horror film, Don’t Knock Twice, starring Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and directed by Caradog James (The Machine). This is in partnership with Ffilm Cymru Wales and Red and Black Films.

As well as VR, Don’t Knock Twice can also be played without a VR device and we’ve balanced the scares for both scenarios to create a VR horror that’s accessible and enjoyed by all. We’ve implemented many different controller setups including standard controllers, single or dual PlayStation Move controllers, Vive controllers and Oculus touch. You can play seated, standing or room-scale. Don’t Knock Twice is a 2-3 hour game with adventure horror style gameplay driven by narrative clues, an intuitive control system featuring teleportation, “stretchy hands” and a one-click 180° rotate button, hidden collectables and achievements, two ending scenarios and a Platinum Trophy.

“Don’t Knock Twice has truly been our most exciting project yet. Our goal was to make it accessible to as many gamers as possible, and we’re lucky enough to be able to develop and publish on three of the leading VR devices as well as giving the option to play traditionally on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. A variety of controller setups are fully supported and there’s also the option for sitting, standing and room-scale play options too.

We found that many VR gamers are restricted to what they can play because they don’t have access to one particular device or platform, which is sometimes resolved by throwing VR support on top of a traditional game, which is not what we’ve done here. We’ve designed this from the ground up to work with or without a VR device so everyone can share the same experiences regardless of what devices they own. We hope to extend the reach even further by looking to support the Nintendo Switch too, so watch this space!” Ben Tester, Wales Interactive.
