Yesterday was a very important day for any VR enthusiast. Yesterday was the day that Oculus Rift, the consumer model, finally launched. At least for the lucky ones who were fast enough to order first. Along with the headset, out of 30 launch titles, came few exclusive VR games and one of them was EVE: Valkyrie.
EVE: Valkyrie is a multiplayer based title set in an EVE universe. Contrary to EVE: Online you will be controlling fighters in this one and according to the trailer – dying a lot. Your main goal though is to learn from each death and become better.
The game and is so far exclusive to Oculus Rift but fret not the developers are promising to bring the game to other VR platforms and hopefully, at some point in a not so distant future, to the 2D screens too.
29 Mar 2016 – Reykjavik, Iceland – CCP Games today announced that EVE: Valkyrie™, the highly anticipated virtual reality (VR) multiplayer dogfighting shooter that Wired.com celebrated as “a soaring example of VR as the future of gaming,” and Gunjack™, the visually stunning VR arcade shooter, have launched on the Oculus Rift platform on PC. Both games were created specifically for VR and build upon CCP’s leadership position in the coming VR revolution, as well as demonstrate the company’s commitment to creating immersive virtual worlds for players around the globe.
“This is just the beginning of our plans for virtual reality,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games. “Our goal has always been to create the most immersive virtual worlds, and VR now gives us a powerful new tool to achieve that.”
Launching EVE: Valkyrie and Gunjack on Oculus Rift is just the latest of CCP’s efforts in VR. Gunjack launched on the Gear VR platform in November 2015, and both games will find their way to additional VR platforms in the future. The company has several other VR projects in development, recently receiving $30 million in investments to support its ambitions.
