Black Cloud Studios have announced a Kickstarter for their new game, Daedalus, an upcoming episodic series set in the year 2112, on a space station orbiting around Venus.

You play as Matt Cramer, a NASA astronaut who starts having vivid nightmares of strange goings on within the station. Eventually one of his crew member dies from an accident exactly as he foresaw it in his dream, and everything starts going downhill from there.

Daedalus will feature a hard sci-fi universe crafted with passion and with help from the NASA subreddit users, an interactive narrative tailored to your choices, and will have a deep and rich backstory for the NPC’s with their own stories. The game is going to have painted 3D gameplay inspired by Telltale and Quantic, and contain two or more hours of gameplay per episode.

The current funding goal is repetitively low, mostly as a joke, but head on over to the Daedalus Kickstarter to sign up and help them along. However, as the damper, I have to point out that Black Cloud Studios have used Kickstarter before, twice for After Reset and onece for a tie-in novel to After Reset called Fall of Gyes. This has caused, to put it politely, a vocal sub-sect of the Kickstarter backers in an uproar.

A lot of the Steam comments are very polite and well written, and do mention that After Reset has effectively become a tech demo rather than a full game after all this time as a Steam Early Access game. I can say for certain that their concept art at least looks great, the story itself, if done correctly could be great, but I can see there being a lot of questions on if we’ll get what is promised in the end. After Reset prologue is supposed to come out pretty soon though so we will see what Black Cloud are capable off.

But as always with Kickstarter, its a gamble, will you roll the dice?
