A Total War Saga Has Been Announced

SEGA has just announced a new chapter in their Total War franchise. Exchanging just one vowel in their name to create a new title, Total War Saga (TWS) explores pivotal moments in history instead of focusing on a whole era. The aim here is to expand the scope of the Total War franchise to include events that only lasted for a few months rather than decades, but that nonetheless had a crucial impact on history.

Here, many ideas could come to mind, perhaps a special feature of the French Revolution or the Seven Year’ War will be seen in the future? Thus far, the developers have stated that Total War Saga will not necessarily reinvent Total War, but continue to mix turn-based campaign strategy, real-time battle tactics and hundreds of hours of gameplay just as any other regular Total War game.

Jack Lusted, the game director of TWS comments: “If you’ve enjoyed previous games, you’ll certainly be interested in Total War Saga games. It’s more about focus. There might be as many playable factions or conquerable territories in them, but that could all be focused down to one specific region or country and a particular point in time“.

In fact, this concept is not exactly foreign to fans of the franchise. Total War: Shogun 2 – Fall of the Samurai has already followed this formula, focusing on a pivotal moment in the history of Japan rather than following events over the decades or centuries.

Jack continues: “To help show the kind of scale we’re talking about, the game that I’m currently working on has a map that is comparable in gameplay size to Total War: ATTILA, but focused on a smaller geographic area, and the campaign will take as long to complete as any other Total War title does. Focusing on a single geographic location in this way allows us to go into greater detail with the period and setting”.

Having mentioned that, they hope to announce their first A Total War Saga title soon, we look forward to what the developers come up with. For more information, check out the official Total War blog Announcement.
