Dawn of Andromeda has been out for barely a day now, and already the Steam reviews are giving a mixed response, describing the game as “bare bones” and “not finished”, but that’s fine. Barely a week ago I predicted the work that Grey Wolf Entertainment have cut out for themselves, and hopefully our readers were aware enough of the game’s state before buying it.

No no, calm down. I don’t know what will top this year’s holiday charts, but I do know that for a small dev team, or indeed any development team, making a polished complete and engaging 4X is a huge undertaking, and even this year’s biggest space 4X success story (Paradox Studio’s Stellaris) has had to contend with a mountain of errors and omissions, despite being in a better state at release than any other recent space 4X I can think of.

So, I’ll repeat it one more time, so that there is no confusion; Dawn of Andromeda is still in development. If you’re happy with that, and still hungry for another space 4X game, then please, show this dev some support, for everyone else, patience is important. But it’s good to know that there’s a new exciting space 4X in the works, something to look forward to for 2017. It’s also worth commending Grey Wolf for the clear roadmap they have laid out too, something I wish more Early Access devs would do.
