Orcs Must Die! is one of my favorite Co-Op game series, and after a horrendous start of the third game in the series, they seem to have turned it around while the game was in Beta…at least somewhat.
Orcs Must Die! Unchained started out to be some sort of MOBA/Tower Defense monstrosity, most people didn’t like that…so Robot Entertainment, the developers, changed it back to the good old game mechanic that made the series so successful. However, it’s still a Free-to-Play game, which means that there are crates and micro-transactions galore, and crates are what you’ll need to unlock traps and characters with.
I would’ve liked a more traditional game without all the in-game store and what have you, but you can’t always get everything you want. All things considered, Orcs Must Die! Unchained is still a very enjoyable experience with friends since the core mechanic is unchanged from previous installments, and it’s free! So, there is no reason for anyone not to give it a try. Anyway, you can start killing hordes of Orcs officially on April the 19th, you could have done that last year too actually, but now the game is finished and out of Beta.
With the final release of the game, Robot Entertainment also added a new game mode called “Sabotage”. A 3vs3 mode where the goal is to do a better job at defending the rift than your opponent. Both teams will play on separate, yet identical maps, and you’ll be able to send Orcs to you opponents rift, sabotaging them basically. Probably why they called the game mode ‘Sabotage’, clever bunch, these Robot Entertainment people.
PLANO, Texas – April 6, 2017 – Robot Entertainment today announced that its hilarious free-to-play team action tower defense game Orcs Must Die! Unchained will fully launch on April 19, 2017 on Steam and OrcsMustDie.com alongside a major launch update featuring the new Sabotage game mode.
The brand new 3v3 game mode offers a completely different way to play Orcs Must Die! Unchained. Players assemble a team to defend their rift, while the opposing players will occupy an ‘alternate reality’ version of the same map, invisible to the enemy team. Both squads will be able to trigger spells, minions, and huge bosses to distract, trip up, and otherwise thwart their opponents. By protecting their own rift and plunging the defences of their foes into chaos, one team will end the match with the most rift points and claim victory.
To celebrate the news, Robot Entertainment has kicked off Orc Week. Gamers can relish in the destruction of green meanies with 90% off all Orcs Must Die! games and DLC on Steam until April 10th. Visit OrcWeek.com for all of the Steam sale details and a wide array of orcish celebrations!
“We can’t thank our community enough for the constant support and feedback during the year long beta. We really listened to our fans and Orcs Must Die! Unchained constantly evolved during this period”, said Patrick Hudson, CEO of Robot Entertainment. “Now we are thrilled to gear up for the full launch and can’t wait until veterans and newcomers get their hands on the new Sabotage mode”.
The launch update also includes improvements and fixes for the existing game modes Survival and Endless, in which players select one of sixteen heroes and team up with two other friends to defend their rift from ruthless hordes of orcs and minions. Each hero features a wide variety of unique powers, and can also cover their fortresses in cunning traps and brutal torture devices in order to terminate the incoming hordes.
About The Orcs Must Die! Series
Orcs Must Die! is an action-strategy game series that challenges players and their friends to team up and defend a world constantly under siege. The original Orcs Must Die! released to critical acclaim in October 2011, winning the AIAS Strategy Game of the Year. It was followed in 2012 by the co-operative sequel, Orcs Must Die! 2. In 2016, Orcs Must Die! Unchained takes the award-winning Orcs Must Die! action tower defense gameplay to a whole new level with team-based gameplay. The stakes are higher, the traps are bloodier, and the invaders are even more ravenous. Orcs Must Die! Unchained is currently in Open Beta on Steam and OrcsMustDie.com, with a PlayStation 4 version following later this year.
