Rebellion just came out announcing that we are going to see Sniper Elite 4 this year. In Sniper Elite 3 we sneaked around in Africa taking out the Nazis and sabotaging facilities enabling the Allied forces kick the Afrika Korps out of the continent. The latest entry is going to follow up right where SE3 ended and continue the fight in 1943’s Italy. It is yet to be seen if we take part in Operation Husky, where Allies took Sicily, the first major step into Europe and a first step to invasion of Italy, or any of the operations that actually were the Invasions of Italy itself but I think that it’s a given that we will participate at least in one.
The press release doesn’t provide a lot of information besides that it will be a “next-gen” title and an aim to deliver on extra computing power. That should benefit PC’s the most as we are oftentimes help back by the lowest common denominator. The reveal trailer and provided screenshots look really good with high fidelity visuals, high resolution textures and detailed environments but we will see what the game really has to offer later in the year.
What seemed to be strange though is that there was no word on the X-ray cam. Sniper Elite V2 introduced us to the concept and Sniper Elite 3 took it one step further having and X-ray on a well-placed shots on vehicles. It wouldn’t be unexpected to think and hope that Rebellion will one up it in SE4 again but saying that it will be back is a no brainer as it was a huge selling point.
More details will obviously trickle down over the coming weeks and months and we will eventually get to play the game ourselves later in the year. But for now please enjoy the provided media material as well as the press release below.
Oxford, UK – March 7th 2016 – Independent developer and publisher Rebellion has revealed that the next game in the 10 million selling Sniper Elite series is launching this year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Set in the immediate aftermath of its award-winning predecessor, Sniper Elite 4 continues the series’ World War Two heritage by transporting players to the beautiful and diverse environments of Italy in 1943.
Covert agent and elite marksman Karl Fairburne must fight alongside the brave men and women of the Italian Resistance to help free their country from the yoke of Fascism, and defeat a terrifying new threat with the potential to halt the Allied fightback in Europe before it’s even begun.
If his mission fails, there will be no Operation Overlord, no D-Day landings, and no Victory in Europe.
True next-gen stealth
Running in native 1080p on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Sniper Elite 4 is the first game in the series built without the constraints of older hardware and aims to deliver the definitive World War Two shooter for a generation.
From sun-drenched Mediterranean coastal towns to colossal Nazi megastructures, daunting forests and giddying mountain monasteries inspired by Monte Cassino, Sniper Elite 4 will offer breathless emergent stealth action and unrivalled sniping freedom across maps many times the size of those seen in Sniper Elite 3.
