System 3 has released the remaster of Constructor today, after a long 20 year gap of all things.
Of course, Constructor is a product of it’s time, the wonderful humour that we could easily get away with in 1997, I can see it ruffling a few feathers now, but part of the charm for me was that outlandish humour, though it is very British, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I was listening to the trailer and I just wanted to say that the narrator is a British actor by the name of John Challis, who played a bit of a shady character in ‘Only Fools and Horses‘, which is quite… apt with the style of Constructor.
But don’t think that Constructor is just a British Sim City, think of it as a more down to Earth version of Startopia. In this game, it pays to be a little more… sideways to the law, but don’t worry, as long as you keep everyone who lives in your properties happy, you shouldn’t have too much to worry about, key word being “shouldn’t”. But looking at what is in Constructor HD, I would say that it is a combination of the original game and it’s successor, Mob Rule, and with System 3 telling us that there is a good chance of more DLC, we may even get to finally see “Constructor in Space” which was announced but never went anywhere.
“Constructor’s release represents the beginning of a remarkable journey for this reimaged classic,” said John Twiddy, Head of Development. “We’ve been truly humbled by Constructor fans who have so enthusiastically supported us through the development of the title, and we’re confident that the final game will deliver an experience that does justice to the Constructor name. With much more to come in terms of downloadbale content and multiplayer modes, we’re delighted to launch the game to an eager Constructor audience.”
The remastered Constructor is now available via Steam for £24.99/$29.99 USD, and with a downloadable Demo for those ‘try before you buy’ types.
