For those of us with a more niche bent when it comes to our games, Desura was like Steam, but better. Specialising in providing games that you just couldn’t find anywhere else…without downloading each individual installer at least, Desura never really made it to the mass market. But was never really intended to. Unfortunately, that also meant it suffered from a, well, niche appeal and it fizzled out. Enter OnePlay, who have snapped up not only Desura, but also Indie Royale and Daily Royale, bringing them all into one big, happy family. The new owner currently plans to return Desura to active status by the end of next year.

Promising that they will do everything in their power to bring back all previous accounts, including every single game tied to them, this is indeed superb news. Though it’s worth bearing in mind, this may not be possible, OnePlay are committed to do everything they possibly can to make it happen. Which leaves us wondering only one thing really. Will old, unredeemed Desura codes also work on the new one? I would expect so, but watch this space for final confirmation.
