The mysterious Andromeda Initiative has been revealed to be…a trailer, and not a particularly good one at that. Adopting a recurrent sound akin to the Inception “BWONG” interspersed between snippets of bombastic actiony sequences.
Mass Effect: Andromeda seems to be promising us…more Mass Effect. Don’t get me wrong, it looks very pretty, and certainly feels like Mass Effect, but there’s nothing of any true substance. A series of hectic scenes of people running, things exploding and aliens with apparent halos (yes, seriously) of bone atop their heads. Calling it now, this is a “the Gods are really aliens” plot that will be the SHOCKING twist at the end of the game or something…
…and I’m going to buy it anyway because yes, it is just more Mass Effect…but, well, it’s more Mass Effect, and whilst that may not be the most inspiring note to end on, it’s certainly apt. Mass Effect (God! How many times are you going to type that?! ~ed) is a solid series of games, barring the disappointing ending to part three, and even a mediocre, more of the same game is still going to be coming from a strong starting point. So there’s that.
The one interesting thing actually comes from the Andromeda Initiative website. In the upper right of the page we have the following text:

Which would seem to indicate that, at least at the date of launching, the journey to Andromeda kicks off around the same time as the events of Mass Effect 2. So make of that what you will.
MASS EFFECT…Mass Effect.
Mass Effect!
