Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite Announced at PSX

The PlayStation Experience was glorious this year, but Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite (MvCI) being announced was the stuff of dreams.

It’s been over five years since Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (UMvC3) blew people’s minds, and MvCI seems to be refreshing that same feeling. People seem especially excited for the Street Fighter x Tekken style tag-team combos, infinity gem power boosts, and the seemingly infinite potential for cool new characters. It’s was also cool of Capcom to remember that they do own MegaMan, and they should let him out to play more often.

According to PlayStation’s official blog, MvCI will feature a “single player Arcade, Training and Mission modes, a visually stunning and immersive cinematic Story Mode will put players at the center of both universes as they battle for supremacy against powerful forces and a new villain.” The rumor on the web is that this “new villain” is a cross between Marvel’s Ultron and Capcom’s Sigma, based on the glowing eyes and shape.

Its unknown how many characters will be in MvCI, or who any of them will be beside Ryu, Megaman, Iron Man and Captain Marvel who were all shown in the trailer above, and Captain America and Morrigan from the trailer below. Historically these games have been extraordinary at picking both obscure nobodies as well as iconic figures. That being said, it’s likely that MvCI will have Ant Man, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy, and other characters linked to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially with Marvel: Infinity Wars coming out in 2018.

Some people, including UMvC3 pros, are worried about the bland appearance, how the tag-team combos will work, and the lack of any assists shown in the trailer, but it’s still VERY early in development, and will most likely be polished well into next year. In the end, Marvel is here, Marvel is back, and people are just hyped to have another Marvel vs Capcom fighting game to perform their crazy cinematic 1-touch death combos in.

Just hours after the original trailer for Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite dropped; an extended gameplay trailer has been shown featuring Captain America, Morrigan, and a little more MegaMan. While the majority of the video is identical, basic combos and supers are shown. Both characters look different from their Marvel vs Capcom 3 versions, but gameplay looks to be nearly identical if the combos or charging star and darkness illusion supers are any indication.

New characters will always steal the show, but an armor switch mechanic was briefly shown for MegaMan. The only difference shown was that MegaMan was able to charge his shots, similar to Zero did in UMvC3, but Arthur also switched armor as a super in UMvC3, and received temporary buffs and upgrades to his special moves.

Scheduled to release in 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, this is just the beginning of a Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite news maelstrom, so stay tuned.
