Developed in conjunction with Focus Home Interactive, New World Interactive’s tactical modern military shooter Insurgency has had its sequel revealed.

Entitled Insurgency: Sandstorm, it represents the next phase of development for New World, marking the move away from Valve’s Source engine to Unreal Engine 4, and the move to a new generation of consoles and PC gamers. The hardcore tactical gameplay will return from the original, plus improved bullet mechanics, light vehicle driving, expanded environments, competitive matchmaking, and more.

Not only that, New World is stepping into new territory with addition of a single-player campaign. Chronicling the journey of a female Kurdish PKK fighter, she and her three allies must navigate an increasingly war-torn Middle East, as they fight against both violent extremist fighters, and US forces alike. The content sounds similar to Six Days in Fallujah, an unreleased game about the Iraq War.

Time will tell if Insurgency: Sandstorm drums up the same level of controversy, but for now, Sandstorm is aiming for a PC alpha late this year, with a potential release next year.
