The latest trailer for PlatinumGames’s genre-busting RPG, Nier: Automata has been released, showing off four distinct weapon classes, plus some use of your pod’s skills. The four classes of weapons are small swords, large swords, spears and combat bracers, each with their own playstyle and feel for the weapons.

Light swords attack quickly and have little knockback, large swords are massive, powerful swings that cleave your robot enemies in half, spears provide some pushback, which leaving you with opportunities to chain moves, and combat bracers send your enemies flying. Also shown is use of your combat pod, which has a variety of ranged attacks, gravity controls, and transformative abilities to support your war against the robotic menace.

Also, coming alongside the latest trailer is a staff interview with Famitsu Magazine, which Siliconera has provided the translated version here. Unsurprisingly, the staff’s irreverent answers live up to Yoko Taro’s legacy, with Hito Matsudaira (Character Modeling Artist) saying, “Each body part is a masterpiece, so there’s more to it than just the butt.” The interview also claims that it’ll have a happy ending, though based on what I’ve played of the Drakengard games and Nier, this seems highly unlikely.

One more note for the PC version of the game: the version of the trailer linked above uploaded by Gematsu has a Steam release date pegged at March 10th, with the console release coming out on the 7th. As both PlatinumGames and Square Enix have remained silent on the PC release date thus far, it’s entirely possible that the image included with the trailer was uploaded by mistake, and is no longer accurate.  Hard to tell, with radio silence on the matter. Either way, we’ll know more in the coming weeks about Nier: Automata’s release date.
