CD Projekt RED has announced that the first wave of invites for GWENT, the famous Witcher card game, is being sent out. Everyone who signed up so far should keep an eye at their inboxes over the next few days.
This, however, is not the first time there has been a standalone card game made from a big game, there’s several fan made Pazaak games, the famous card game from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (not the MMO), but this is the first time that such game has been made by the big developers. Then of course, as we all can remember the wonder that was Caravan from Fallout: New Vegas, a card game in a big name game that was made specifically for it. That was so bad that everyone I know who has New Vegas only ever played it to get achievements. Some even found mates to come round to their house to play it to get the achievements as they couldn’t stand putting in the time to get it themselves. That’s how annoying it was.
GWENT is something special though. We all know how rock solid CD Projekt RED are, and their determination for making the best possible games they can should help ensure that their specific card based game will be something of legends.
Available on PC and Xbox One with PS4 coming later, the closed beta is available in English, Polish, Russian, German and Brazilian Portuguese, and as with all closed beta’s, new features will be added as time passes.
CD PROJEKT RED, creators of The Witcher series of games, announce the start of the Closed Beta of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.
“GWENT is an example of how the community can have actual impact on game developers. What we created as a part of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is now, because of your involvement, a standalone game and a totally different experience that firmly stands on its own,” says Marcin Momot, Senior Community Coordinator, CD PROJEKT RED.
“The Closed Beta is another step in the process — you can now help us shape the game into something you can call your own,” adds Momot.
Available on PC*, Xbox One**, and later PlayStation 4, the Closed Beta starts today. Gamers who signed up on playgwent.com can expect the first wave of invitation emails to arrive soon. Gamers who have not yet signed up can still do so by following this link. GWENT is an Xbox Play Anywhere title.
* The Windows 10 Universal Windows Platform version will be available later as part of the Closed Beta.
** GWENT Closed Beta is available as part of the Xbox One Game Preview program.
The initial Closed Beta build of GWENT is available in English, Polish, French, Russian, German, and Brazilian Portuguese. New game features are expected to be added during the duration of the tests.
