In a short post, we have some good news for all Cities: Skylines players out there, and it’s about a birthday bash.
It has been two years since Cities: Skylines was set forth and allowed all SimCity players to play the game they always wanted, and there has been over 3.5 million copies sold worldwide, which is no small feat for a small studio. The announced present is a free update that will be bringing in a Panda Zoo, a Chinese Temple and the Shanghai Pearl Tower, the pack will be called “Pearls from the East” and will be available soon.
Fredrik Wester of Paradox Interactive had a nice speech that you can read below in the official statement, he is happy at the fact that players are enjoying the game, and the same sentiment has been said by Mariina Hallikaien of Colossal Order, though she is also pleasantly surprised by the mods that players have created.
So a great two years, lets hope that Cities: Skylines survives like SimCity 4 has, and part of that is the players and the modders, and of course, the dedicated team who created such a great game in the first place.
STOCKHOLM – Mar. 10, 2017 — Paradox Interactive, a publisher of games that make great birthday presents, today announced that Cities: Skylines, a game that released two years ago on March 10, 2015, has now sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide. Cities: Skylines, the award-winning city-building game from developer Colossal Order, has reached this milestone as of its second anniversary, including copies sold across all retailers for all platforms. To commemorate this achievement, Paradox and Colossal Order will be adding a free set of three new in-game buildings inspired by Chinese architecture in a promotion occurring soon.
“From the first day Cities: Skylines was released, it’s been breaking records,” said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive. “The game had our biggest launch in history at the time, selling 250.000 copies in its first 24 hours, and the community has only gotten bigger and more devoted over the last two years. Cities: Skylines perfectly showcases the kind of experiences we’re proud to support at Paradox: a game that people are just as excited to play now as they were two years ago. Happy birthday to Cities: Skylines, congratulations to Colossal Order, and my sincere thanks to all our players. Please follow me on Chirper.”
“It’s fair to say that Cities: Skylines has changed all of our lives at Colossal Order,” said Mariina Hallikainen, CEO of Colossal Order. “This is a game we had all been working on and dreaming about creating for years. Seeing how many people have rallied around it, and seeing the incredible community sharing their cities and mods has been so rewarding and inspiring. On behalf of our entire team, thank you so much to all of our players for your ongoing support!”
Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order will be releasing a new in-game building pack as a free DLC to all players of Cities: Skylines. The pack, titled “Pearls from the East,” will bring a splash of style to mayor-players’ cities with three new buildings: a Panda Zoo, a Chinese Temple, and the Shanghai Pearl Tower, and will be available soon.
