The latest monthly update brings platoons, new gun variants, and some news about upcoming maps to Battlefield 1.
First and foremost, the addition of Platoons, a social way to represent a group of friends in-game has made its way to the battlefields of World War 1, bringing with it some new features. Now, if a squad is created and only has members of a platoon in it, the squad’s name will be changed to the name of the platoon. Not only that, but if your platoon contributes to a majority of a flag’s capture, a pennant will fly on the flag with your platoon’s emblem, giving temporary bragging rights for you and your friends.
Other new changes include four new gun variants, each of which require completion of a lengthy challenge to unlock them, server administration tools, and the “medic revive intent,” which is where medics can spot downed players, and the player will receive a notification that the medic is coming to revive them. New ribbons and dog tags, a whole host of bug fixes, changes to grenades (again), and general balancing of stationary weapons also make an appearance. The entire list of patch notes is available here, the changes of which are too numerous to count.
A few days after the release of the April Patch for Battlefield 1, a news post popped up discussing plans for this summer. Two new maps, free for premium owners, will be making an appearance, featuring the Nivelle Offensive and locations from the failed attack by the French. Early screenshots of Prise de Tahure continue the visually stunning track that the French maps have all had, and also hint at a new nighttime map. The other map coming for free, Nivelle Nights, has already been on the CTE server for quite some time, and more likely will be released first.
Not only that, but the second DLC for Battlefield 1, “In the Name of the Tsar,” brings the Russian Empire, and is slated to come “late summer for Stockholm and Los Angeles,” whatever that means. The first footage of “In the Name of the Tsar” will come on June 10th, as part of the EA Play 2017 event leading up to E3.
Until then, you can bet I’ll be waging war in the French trenches, carving a path to survival in Battlefield 1.
