Another Try at Battlezone

Harking back to the good old days, we have Rebellion remaking the classic Arcade/Atari Battlezone game, or in this case, porting it to PC VR via Oculus and Vive.

Having already been released on PlayStation, Battlezone VR is the latest remake of the old Battlezone from Atari in 1980 (yes, back when Atari meant more than a label) which no, it wasn’t for home PC it was for those mythical places called “Arcade Stores” where electronic gaming took off.

Rebellion have also previously re-released the 1998 version on Steam under Battlezone 98 Redux, which is worth a look at for those of us without a VR system, but is a slightly more advanced version than the original. So far we know that it will be coming to Steam VR using the Vive and Oculus, though with the recent legal issues surrounding Oculus, we will have to see what happens there.

I would say this looks extremely like someone decided to make Battlezone into a cyberpunk experience, which with the 1980’s being the birth era of the genre as well, isn’t too bad. However, I do suggest heading over to the official website which has more information about Battlezone VR if you’re intrigued, but not much about the history of the game itself will be found, luckily, that’s what Google is for.
