Warcraft III Gets a Patch Too

True to form in Blizzard fashion, the patch for Warcraft III came without warning, and left without notes, if a post on the Blizzard forums is any indication. Thanks to PC Gamer we know this patch aims to improve compatibility with modern Windows and Mac systems. While there are a few issues to possibly be ironed out in a future patch it’s nice to see that Blizzard is supporting their old games if a recent patch for Diablo II is any indication.

Official Press Release

Today we will be deploying 1.27a for Warcraft III. As with Diablo II, this patch focuses on modern system compatibility. It’s exciting to bring some additional support to another core Blizzard game, and we thank you for your encouragement and patience as we continue working behind the scenes on these types of updates.

Please be aware that while we are working on a balance change and new map pool, that work is still in progress and is not part of this patch. We’ll have further details on that as development progresses.

Given that they were looking for legacy programmers (with the ad specifically mentioning D2, WC3 and SC), it was pretty obvious that something was going to happen. I'm just hoping that they add their old games to their Battle.net launcher (would make it a lot simpler to update and reinstall them).

Well this and D2 patches were unexpected to say the least. Not a lot of companies can be trusted to support their products for this many years.

Without warning?? You guys aren't following closely enough. There was an announcement video over the weekend...
