The Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon is Currently in Development for PC and Mac and Set for a Q4 2019 Release Window

Thursday, November 15, 2018 — A month-long competition promises fame and fortune to one who possesses enough wit, skill, and brawn to survive a run all the way through a deadly dungeon. Thus, begins developer Sentient Play’s odyssey to continue a classic story from the original Fighting Fantasy series of single-player, role-playing gamebooks. The Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon, now in development for PC and Mac with an expected Q4 2019 release window, is the video game reinvention of the old-school gamebooks that were popular in the 1980s, most specifically Deathtrap Dungeon.

Sentient Play has teamed up with Ian Livingstone and Iain McCaig, the original designers of Deathtrap Dungeon, to create The Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon, the first sequel to that storyline since the 80s. The CRPG uses the Storybook Hero RPG Engine to give modern cinematic life to the best parts of “old-school” role-playing. With the convenience of a gamebook and the wide wonder of pen and paper roleplaying, this game is a revolutionary “Novel” RPG where your actions literally write the book as you play.

The Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon is currently on Fig with a goal of $200K USD. “We’re a small team, proud of how far we’ve taken The Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon, but now it’s time to call in some specialists—amazing artists, writers, cartographers, animators, and developers to help us take our game to the level so that we can deliver to you the game we have imagined. With your help, we’ll bring The Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon to life in a truly original and amazing way,” said Brad Becker, founder of Sentient Play.

In The Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon, players are posed a challenge: “Enter the world’s deadliest competition: 30 days to conquer a labyrinth designed to kill you—filled with monsters, traps, and ruthless competitors. Knowledge is your secret weapon: clues from your skills and equipment are all that stand between you and sudden death as you move from encounter to encounter, finding your own unique solution to each through wits…or force. Strive to survive and gain enough experience, skills, and equipment to become The Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon,” said Brad Becker, CEO and Founder, Sentient Games.
