Greedfall: Spiders’ New Game Brings Magic to the 17th Century

Now that The Technomanceer has taken its place in gaming history. At six months old, positively geriatric by modern sensibilities, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been waiting to hear what they plan to do next. So the arrival of a wee trailer from le What’s Next de Focus event in Paris, last week, has satisfied that itch. Brining us the first look at their new title Greedfall. Another RPG, focusing on core mechanics, set during a magical 17th century Europe.

Literally magical, with, like, actual magic and giant tree deer stomping around being generally badass. The story will take us to a mysterious island, which has attracted many a plucky young adventure with its promise of fame, fortune and arcane powers. But there’s that wee problem of the local inhabitants being all belligerent, and unreasonable, wanting to left alone to life their lives in peace. How inconsiderate of them!

My guess would be that we’re either going to belong to the latter group, or ultimately side with them as an outsider. But details are very scare at the moment, and the above trailer is typical Focus fair, intended to give us an impression of the tone of the game, as opposed to any genuine insight into its narrative. But there was certainly enough there to catch my eye. Again.

Greedfall is scheduled to release some time in 2018, and we will keep you updated as we learn more.
