Final Fantasy XV Announced For PC

It’s happening! No, the trees aren’t revolting against mankind, that’s a different kind of happening. What’s happening is Final Fantasy XV is coming to PC! Even if you don’t care for Final Fantasy games there’s still reason to rejoice because the feature list for the PC version is quite frankly insane, this could very well be the new Crysis where not even the top-end PCs five years from now can max it out.

Lets get the obvious bit out of the way first; there’s no release date yet. Just “early 2018” which is a thing we’re hearing a lot lately. If I had to speculate, my professional guess would be a March release date, probably somewhere towards the end of the month but I’d like to repeat that that is entirely speculation on my part.

As the press release keeps shouting, FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION will include all the content available to the console versions including all season pass content and free update content. Additionally there’ll be a new first person mode added to the game, because they knew we wouldn’t be able to resist manipulating the camera into Gladiolus’ spectacularly manly abs. Oh baby.

The PC version is also going to support a seriously impressive array of advanced features. The Luminous engine is no slouch to start with but native support for 4K and 8K resolutions, HDR10, and Dolby Atmos are all on the cards for those with the peripherals to support them.

For the rest of us poor fools with top-end systems the engine will also support Nvidia Flow (dynamic fluid, smoke, and fire,) HairWorks (dynamic, life-like hair and fur,) ShadowWorks (allows characters to cast shadows on themselves,) Turf Effects (dynamic grass and vegetation,) and VXAO (Voxel Accelerated Ambient Occlusion – seriously high end lighting.) Good luck enabling all of those options at once even on the best GPUs.

FFXV on PC will also support Nvidia Ansel for taking and sharing in-game photos. Nvidia ShadowPlay Hightlights will also capture moments and allow sharing via social media.

If the press release is to be believed, the PC version will be running on the Luminous Engine which is an evolution of Luminous Studio Pro, the version of the engine that was used in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Basically the difference is that Nvidia GameWorks was added.

That’s all the information we have for now. We’ll keep our ear to the ground and report anything new as we get it. Meanwhile, if you’re still hungry for more, Nvidia has an excellent post over on their site detailing the enhancements to the engine with screenshots and video.

Are you as excited as we are? Have you already played a console version of the game? Let us know in the comments section.

It should be mentioned that the game will be about 170GB big. That's.. quite a lot.
