Black Future ’88 Announcement Trailer

Posted on 14 Mar 2018

We’re a sucker for a good bit of cyberpunk, even if it’s just some cool visuals and Black Future ’88 certainly delivers on that front. The plot’s kept simple – a bloke called Duncan caused a nuclear apocalypse and left the world stuck in 1988’s synth-punk aesthetic, it’s your job to kick his arse for being a bit of a tit. To do that you’ll have to climb a procedurally generated tower and kill his Wardens, boss enemies. There’s also the awesome work of post-punk new-wave band Tremor Low on the soundtrack. Lovely.

Black Future ’88 will have 5 playable characters with unique powers, and will feature local two-player coop and global leaderboards for daily challenge runs. The game is launching later this year. Stay tuned for more info.

Official Press Release

Good Shepherd Entertainment To Publish SuperScarySnakes’ Dystopian Roguelike Action Shooter Black Future ‘88 On Windows PC In 2018

AMSTERDAM – March 14, 2018 – Good Shepherd Entertainment has revealed it will publish independent developer SuperScarySnakes’ synth-punk 2D roguelike action shooter Black Future ‘88 later this year on Windows PC.

Black Future ‘88’s neon-lit retro-future style paints a dark alternate history of a world reeling from a nuclear cataclysm created by Duncan, the tower architect. The first of his bombs fell in 1988, blacking out the sun with perpetual rain and it’s been 1988 ever since. Now the only time that matters is measured in minutes left to live. As one of the last remaining survivors, fight your way to the top of the tower to kill Duncan before your heart explodes.

Climb an evolving procedural tower through a merciless onslaught of fire, lasers and steel. Shoot, slash and dash to overcome deadly traps, homicidal AI, crazed junkies and colossal boss-grade Wardens. Choose one of five playable characters, each with their own unique powers, then upgrade your renegade with a selection of dozens of brutal weapons and special buffs/curses to survive. Test your wits and reflexes alone or with a friend in two-player couch co-op, and measure your mettle against other players by tackling daily challenges with unique attributes to climb a global leaderboard.

Black Future ‘88’s anarchic ascent for revenge is scored with a killer analog-synth original soundtrack from post-punk new-wave band Tremor Low.
