Absolver, an open-world action game being made by Sloclap and published by Devolver has recently dropped a trailer that covers the basics of combat and gameplay in their world filled with masks and martial arts.

It’s been a long time since we heard any news of Absolver, but it’s looking like a fantastically stylized For Honor, with it’s focus on fully customizable stances and special moves, even down to its stance wheel. Unlike For Honor, there are four stances to choose from at a time, and three classes to choose from that change your abilities and stats, which are as follows:

  • Kahlt Method: Absorb hits without being stunned or pushed back, regain health with successful counter attacks.
  • Forsaken: Balanced and powerful, prospects can parry enemy attacks and briefly stun opponents.
  • Windfall: Greater dexterity and will, avoid enemy attacks to leave them open to a powerful counter attack.

The special abilities will be unlocked as you fight or can be learned from mentors, and will act like a “combat deck” of techniques that you can choose from. Some techniques will emphasize speed, others range, and others yet, damage. Some techniques can even be linked together to create an extended combo.

The trailer also showed off some new forested areas and old ruins, as well as new techniques and stances using weapons. Most importantly, this trailer shows that Sloclap is dedicated to making Absolver a well-balanced game with visual flare and style at its core in all combat, both for the PvP and PvE gameplay.

Absolver is set for release August 29th, 2017 for Windows PC and Sony PlayStation 4 owners, with a later release for the Xbox One.

Official Press Release

Independent developer Sloclap and low blow specialists Devolver Digital pulled no punches today as the company released a brand new trailer showcasing the details and nuance of combat in the upcoming online melee action game and announced that Absolver is set to kick your face off on PlayStation 4 and PC August 29th.

Absolver puts players behind the mask of a Prospect, who has taken a sacred vow and chosen to join the Absolvers, an elite corps of combatants fighting to maintain stability in the world. Prospects will choose a combat style, each with their own special abilities, and assemble their own custom Combat Deck to create a personal fighting system in intense, real-time combat. Choose to wander the land alone, with friends, or find a mentor to spar and learn from to become a more polished warrior.

Absolver’s new trailer dives deep into these details, giving players a good look at each unique fighting method and the abilities they serve.  At the beginning of your journey, players choose one of three combat styles, but others exist in the world of Adal waiting to be discovered. Each of the three initial combat styles come with special abilities and improves special character attributes depending on player style:

  • Kahlt Method – Absorb hits without being stunned or pushed back, and regain lost health with every successful counter attack.
  • Forsaken – Balanced and powerful, prospects can parry enemy attacks and briefly stun opponents.
  • Windfall – Greater dexterity and will, prospects can avoid enemy attacks leaving them open to a powerful counter attack.

The trailer also outlines the Combat Deck. The Combat Deck is the inventory of attacks that players can use while fighting. Your deck is made up of four stances, and in each stance different attacks are available. Players can choose attacks and stances to create their own unique fighting style; it’s fully customisable and you can change your stance on the fly to keep your opponents on their toes.

In combat, players are also able to unlock new attacks, or you can take on a mentor and learn their ways – relationships are as important as they allow you to acquire more skill and knowledge.

Find your combat style when Absolver launches on August 29th.
